La Sosta - Jabena
The name 'Birbirsa' comes from the Oroomiffa language widely spoken in Ethiopia. It is a name given to a native shade tree found only in the region where coffee is produced, and translates as a "Tree that lives longer and has broad branches".
21 smallholder farmers contributed cherries to this plot, which have an average farm size of 2 hectares. Farmers are paid 65 Ethiopian Birr per kilo of red cherry delivered to the washing station.
